Scam watch – nuclear energy

There has been much, too much, about nuclear power as a solution to Australia’s decarbonisation challenge. But it is a scam

The case is simple – if nuclear power was a low cost source of power, then the US of America, a leading nuclear technology nation, would be building heaps of it. But it is not.

The interactive chart below is from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, US Dept of Energy, comparing the existing capacity of generation in USA in 2010 and 2024 with proposed generation “in queues” for connection to the grid.

The capacity of operating nuclear has not changed in 14 years, and proposed nuclear has dropped off the queue to zero.

Compare that with solar generation, where 515GW of proposals are being considered to add to the existing 91GW.

Sure it is not Australia, but USA is known as a country where money talks.
