- 2026 is a watershed year in the energy system, in so many ways…
One of the more obvious, you literally see it on the streets, is the shift EV mass market take up to be the new normal. Besides Australia’s well renown lover affair with rooftop solar, it is one of the most evident examples of how electrons just beat molecules when it come to providing the service we actually want, in this case transport.
Not only, but also… you can keep making energy savings, meaning money savings
Earlier this year Michael Liebreich launched the Electrifciation Staircase, shown below, to illustrate when (not if) we can electrify parts of the economy. (Michael founded of Bloomberg New Energy Finance and longtime author of the Hydrogen Ladder, a similar tool to show where hydrogen makes sense in the new energy universe.)
The key messages
- for our personal homes and lives, you can electrify now, even retrofitting old housing – so make your plan to transition to heatpumps, induction cooktops, smart appliances, batteries, etc. and don’t waste money burning stuff longer than you need to.
- for commercial businesses, likewise why aren’t you electrifying heat and transport?
- for industries requiring heat, like brewing or glass making, the electric solutions are here, so what do they mean for you – especially why would you lock yourself into a costly fossil system if you are setting up from new?
ECAM has been highlighting personal home electrification journeys and EV experiences. We hope to bring you stories of how businesses are changing their practices and saving themselves money as a result, as well as decarbonizing their products and services to our community
