They can slow down or utilise rain water that would flow into the stormwater system and local creeks, water that can carry pollutants, litter, grass clippings and animal waste. Excessive storm water flow can also cause erosion of creek banks and waterways.<\/p><p>These are some examples of potential rain garden locations that have been sent to us. These might be existing damp spots of your garden where suitable plants can be added, rain water flow paths toward stormwater inlets or purpose-built in-ground or above ground gardens to use water from downpipes or rainwater tank overflows.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-74ffe29 e-grid e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"74ffe29\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42378f0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"42378f0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This is a well prepared site that can make use of native plants that are suited to the different zones of the rain garden.<\/p><p>Plants in this garden area will need to be able to withstand inundation after rain, but cope with dry conditions between rainfall events.<\/p><p>Larger rocks here control the flow of rainwater and prevent the loss of top soil from surrounding parts of the garden. This type of garden is over a wider area and is constructed as a sloping channel designed to move water toward a stormwater outlet, while slowing down water flow.<\/p><p>There are likely to be different zones as a result of different water flow and moisture retention in different parts of the garden.
